I like to consider myself a pretty avid reader. I like all different styles of books from Life of Pi to Twilight. Sweet Burden is definitely a good read. It is certainly geared towards the teen to late teen reader, but it is well written, well thought out and doesn't include vampires :) I found as I got to the end I really wanted to know what happened, and upon finishing the book, I can't wait to read the next book. Well done Ogden! I can't wait to keep reading your work!

K.L. Ogden's skill in writing this story is brilliant, beginning with the very first sentence and concluding with the last. Drama, danger, intrigue, romance, chivalry, duplicity are woven meticulously throughout the story. Ogden's descriptive and intricate details create a tale that the reader does not want to put down OR to end. While the prospective audience may be teens and young adults, the book is absolutely entertaining for all ages. Hitomi and Obsidian, their friends and foes, live an astonishing existence that keeps the reader involved and wondering what will happen next. I am looking forward to the second book in the series!
With so many young adult authors getting stuck in the rut of the same old vampire stories, it is nice to actually see a fresh story about a little bit different type of characters. I hate to give spoilers because part of the brilliance of the story is the way that the reader discovers the mysteries of the main character. It is the beginning of a series that could potentially be a very epic story of good versus evil, a great read if you are a fan of the young adult genre.

The characters are well thought out and the fantasy part of this story is very new and fresh. I recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of the Twilight series. I'm excited to see where the author takes us next!
Such Sweet Sorrow. The downside to this life of reading and reviewing is the novels that just do not quite make it to the top of the list. I was anxious to read Sweet Burden, and could not wait to get started. The first time I started reading it I struggled so much that I put it down for another day. Many times I will encounter a story that just happens not to satisfy my craving at that particular moment. I then find later when I pick up and start reading that it had nothing to do with the story, and everything to do with me. So, rule of thumb is to always put it down and try again later. Later, for this story offered the same results, so I have to accept that this is just not the story for me.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and am anxiously awaiting the second installment. The story is so unique and entertaining... Very age appropriate for young adult readers.
